My philosophy is based on carefully listening to the patient and her family member or caregiver, since many times with a well-directed history taking you can already have a presumptive diagnosis and thus go more directly to the approach needed to corroborate it with the physical examination, imaging studies in this case ultrasound, and complementary laboratory tests. I love my specialty because gynecological patients have the habit of attending follow-up visits for prevention, and I can care for girls, young women of reproductive age, pregnant women, and those in menopause.

Primarily, a good clinical history taking and a complete physical examination in order to guide an timely diagnosis and an appropriate treatment. In the gynecological patient, a physical examination of the breasts, abdomen, and genitalia is performed; then a speculum is placed to obtain samples for cytology. A colonoscopy is performed and we rule out lesions due to HPV, then we perform a pelvic or transvaginal ultrasound as appropriate for each patient. In the obstetric patient, she is also evaluated in a cephalocaudal manner, with emphasis on the gravid abdomen according to gestational age and the number of fetuses, Leopold maneuvers, measuring uterine height, and auscultating the fetal cardiac focus. Then she undergoes her obstetric ultrasound according to the trimester that corresponds. And obstetric management is planned, either via the lower route, meaning vaginal delivery, or via the upper route through a scheduled cesarean section.
